I remember swifts my dad used to get his petrol from there doesn't seem to long ago...

Grandad James Harold PONTER taken down in the yard at Swifts where he worked later Cowans /Spicers. Boys School visible in the background. If you were stood in this position today you would be in Tescos carpark albeit 20 ft lower
Used to play down the back of swifts with Sue COOPER, especially when we had snow, made some great slides down there...SP

I remember playing in the yard and a chap in the top garage had a Austin A30 I think, and every Sunday he would take it out and wax and polish it - was immaculate but I never ever saw him out in it. Maybe he was related to one of the members but sorry can't remember his name...JC
