March 4 At a Ledbury Urban Council meeting it was announced that the ministry of Housing and Local Government had approved and authorised the Council's acceptance of a tender of £26,400 0s. 0d. to build 12 houses and eight flats at the Mabel's furlong site.

Prior to these houses being built the land was used as a Prisoner of War Camp during World War Two.
At the end of the war the Nissen Huts were used as Emergency housing.
The Prisoners Nissen Theatre was used by the Ledbury Amateur Dramatic Society.
In October 1957 a tender was accepted for the erection of the County Secondary School.
