CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH
The jubilee of the above church was celebrated on Thursday, August 20th. A public tea took place at five, followed by a public meeting at 7.30. presided over by Mr W. BOX one of the oldest members of the church, who in his opening remarks referred to the Rev. T. EDWARDS as being the greatest friend he ever had. Rev. J. EDWARDS son of the late Rev. T. EDWARDS, unveiled a marble tablet to the late REV. T. EDWARDS. who founded the church and built the chapel and manse 5 years ago. Addresses were given by Mr J. EDWARDS and Mr G. TYLER, who spoke in the highest terms of the work and Christlike life of the late Rev. T. EDWARDS. Mrs J. TAYLOR recited a poem composed by the Rev T. GREY on the life and work of Mr EDWARDS, entitled, "The Village Apostle." A short but helpful address was given by Rev H.A. BARNES of Ledbury. The Rev W. JEYNES, the Pastor, thanked the people for all the help rendered to make the meeting a success. The tablet is a white marble stone, set on black polished marble and bears the following inscription - "In loving memory of the late Rev T. EDWARDS, who built this chapel and manse and founded this church, and, for 33 years was the honoured and loved pastor. He fell asleep in Jesus November 27, 1899. He being dead yet speaketh." The tablet does credit to the excellent workmanship of Mr. J. J. PROBERT, Froome's Hill. There were present at the service the following relatives of the deceased gentleman - Miss EDWARDS, daughter, and Mr and Mrs H. TYLER son and daughter of Mr and Mrs WORGENT, grand-children. A very impressive meeting was fittingly closed by singing the Doxology. Miss K. PREECE presided at the organ.
