INSPECTION OF LOCAL SCOUTS
The Putley Boy Scouts were inspected on Friday last by the District Commissioner, Mr. LIGHTON. Thirteen out of seventeen scouts paraded in a field adjoining the Scoutmaster's residence. On the arrival of Mr. LIGHTON the troop saluted the colours and sang the National Anthem. Mr. LIGHTON then made his inspection. The lads went through their drills, etc., in a very smart manner, following which the Commissioner made a brief address, in the course of which he congratulated the boys upon their smartness and also Scoutmaster COLLINGHAM for the general efficiency shown by the lads. Such a result was only achieved after the expenditure of much time and trouble, and the boys were very fortunate in having such a gentleman as their Scoutmaster. Thanks were also due to the Misses RILEY, who devoted much time to the movement and spared no effort to make the troop a first rate one. The Commissioner went on to address a few words of encouragement to the lads and urged to all they could to improve their efficiency. Miss V. RILEY recently started a patrol of six "wolf cubs, " and the boys are now equipped with uniform. After the inspection tea was kindly provided by the Misses RILEY and an interesting and instructive afternoon was subsequently brought to a close.
